SIERRA NEVADA, Spain (Mar. 12, 2017) - Lindsey Jacobellis (Stratton Mountain, VT) prevailed at the FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships snowboardcross event on Sunday to claim an amazing fifth World Championship title.

Jacobellis is the most dominant snowboardcross rider in history, and with a landmark fifth World Championship title in 2017 she is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

“I just know that something else turns on inside of me and I get really, really aggressive,” Jacobellis said when asked what the key to her continued success is. “I find energy when I didn’t think I had energy. Maybe it’s just the (World Championships) stage but I believe this course definitely played a really big part in my win today; it was very dynamic and very fast…there were a lot of variables and a lot of transitions that had to be matched perfectly otherwise you would lose a lot of speed for somebody else to capitalize on.”

HAFJELL, Norway (March 11, 2017) – Julia Marino (Westport, CT) earned her fourth X Games medal of the season, taking silver in big air at X Games Norway on Saturday.

Marino has been on fire in 2017, and she stomped her way to her second medal of the week after earning bronze in slopestyle on Friday night. She used her signature combination—a Cab double underflip and backside 720 to earn an overall score of 65. Marino was the slopestyle gold medalist and big air bronze medalist at her rookie X Games appearance in Aspen in January.

Jamie Anderson (South Lake Tahoe, CA) was the only other American lady in the field; she finished sixth. Local girl Silje Norendal won gold for Norway and Austria’s Anna Gasser earned bronze.

For the men, Brock Crouch (Mammoth Lakes, CA) was the only American to make the big air final. He finished eighth in his first X Games big air final with a backside triple cork 1440 and Cab 1260 nose.

SIERRA NEVADA, Spain (March 11, 2017) – The halfpipe contest at the FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships went off under the lights at Sierra Nevada, Spain on Saturday night, where the U.S. qualified four riders to the final: Arielle Gold (Steamboat Springs, CO) and Maddie Mastro (Wrightwood, CA) represented for the women, while Louie Vito (Bellefontaine, OH) and Ryan Wachendorfer (Edwards, CO) represented for the men.

Gold was the top finisher for the American ladies, finishing fifth despite struggling with shoulder pain. “The pipe was better than I expected,” she said after the comp. “It’s a little scary just because it’s so warm and it has some mystical bumps in there that are a bit hard to see but it’s a good pipe.”

Mastro finished just behind Gold in sixth. China’s Xuetong Cai won the event, Japan’s Haruna Matsumoto was second and France’s Clemence Grimal rounded out the podium in third.

SIERRA NEVADA, Spain (Mar. 11, 2017) – Chris Corning (Silverthorne, CO) scored a podium finish in slopestyle at the FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships on Saturday and Karly Shorr (Milford, MI) came in fourth for the ladies.

It’s been warm in Sierra Nevada, and organizers have been working hard to maintain the slopestyle course. “The course has been good,” Corning said after the event. “It’s been tough because it’s been so hot and when they groom it’s super bumpy—it’s never been smooth so that’s kind of been tough to work with.”
