St. Moritz to Host 2017 Alpine Worlds

HIGH1 RESORT, South Korea – Two years after the Vail/Beaver Creek, CO hosts the 2015 FIS World Alpine Ski Championships, the biennial event will move to St. Moritz, Switzerland – a resort where Americans have had incredible success. It was during the 1948 Olympic Winter Games, which was also scored as a World Championships, that Gretchen Fraser earned the historic first U.S. gold medal in skiing. Other World Championships held at the storied Swiss alpine resort were in 1934 and 1974. But it was the 2003 Worlds where the U.S. Ski Team rewrote the record books as a 25-year-old Bode Miller (Franconia, NH) collected gold in giant slalom and combined, along with a silver in super G. Teammate Erik Schlopy shared that giant slalom podium with bronze, while Kirsten Clark and Jonna Mendes went silver and bronze in super G.
