Narragansett, RI (Oct. 2, 2014) – uvex sports Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of German-based uvex sports GmbH & Co. KG, announced today that it has signed an agreement with the United States Ski & Snowboard Association (USSA) to officially make uvex ski goggles and helmets available to athletes on the elite and development teams.

"We have seen fantastic growth in our Supplier Pool over the past couple years and we are happy to welcome a longtime supporter in uvex back into the mix," said Michael Jaquet, CMO of USSA.  "The next five years and beyond provide great opportunity for alpine ski racing in America highlighted by the 2015 Alpine World Championships in Vail/Beaver Creek, the 2017 World Cup Finals in Aspen, and many event and media opportunities in between. At USSA, we are striving to deliver value back to our Partners like uvex in their association with our Best in the World athletes."

uvex was the most popular goggle and helmet brand in the Sochi games worn by upwards of 400 athletes from alpine skiing to bobsledding and ski jumping. An unprecedented 62 athletes won medals while wearing the product in February. By rejoining the USSA pool, America’s top skiers and snowboarders, and up-and-coming athletes can choose to wear uvex’s latest technologies in competition.

“uvex’s strong results in Sochi combined with very positive growth within the U.S. freeskiing and racing segments this past season highlights the need to rejoin the USSA pool,” said uvex’s US General Manager, Sergio Kiehl. “uvex sports is strongly committed to a long term partnership with USSA and to the success of our American athletes.”

Products like the uvex FIS-certified Race 3 Carbon helmet weighing a mere 450 grams ($900) and the lush, oversized Downhill 2000 Race Chrome goggles ($150) are becoming athlete favorites worldwide due to the lightweight design, fit and functionality according to Jeff Burkley, uvex Sales & Marketing Director.

“A key part of the athletes’ future successes may depend on uvex’s advanced, technical products which are made in the company’s factories in Germany” Burkley said. “And it’s much more than just providing goggles and helmets – the ongoing support plus first class R&D combine to give U.S. athletes a competitive advantage.”
