PARK CITY, UT (April 18, 2016) – The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) will conduct educational workshops, host sport committee meetings and recognize some of the organization’s top coaches, volunteers and athletes at the 2016 USSA Congress. Stakeholders from around the country will attend the week-long annual meeting alongside USSA executives and staff. Club leaders will also participate in the USSA’s Club Excellence Conference two days prior.

As the national governing body of Olympic skiing and snowboarding, the USSA provides leadership and direction for tens of thousands of young skiers and snowboarders. USSA Congress is an opportunity for organizational stakeholders to evaluate and plan for the coming season.

The 2016 USSA Congress will be a platform for the presentation of an updated organizational vision, mission, values and goals. After soliciting public feedback during last year’s Congress, the Governance Review Taskforce spent the last year evaluating these points and reworking them to better support the organization’s vision of being Best in the World.

“The new mission, goals and values better align with what we want the USSA to represent at every level and are cornerstones in our Best in the World vision,” said USSA President and COE Tiger Shaw. “The comments we received last year were extremely helpful in identifying the values our membership feels are important.”

This year’s Congress is being held in conjunction with the USSA’s Club Excellence Conference, the premier event for club education and development. This year’s Club Excellence Conference, titled “Mission Possible,” features a variety of workshops and breakout sessions with a keynote from Lieutenant Colonel Eric J. Weis, an active duty Infantry officer with over 22 years of commissioned Army service. Weis currently holds the position of Associate Professor and Course Director of Strategic Leadership in the Department of Behavioral Science at the Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy, part of the National Defense University.

“By bringing Club Excellence and Congress together this year, we’re hoping to establish a stronger connectivity between the USSA’s education and governance components,” said Director of Sport Education Brian Krill. “It’s a fantastic opportunity for our leaders at the club level to learn from each other and participate in the greater governing process.”

The USSA Club Excellence Conference is scheduled to take place May 9-10, with USSA Congress beginning on May 11 and continuing through May 15. All presentations and events will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Park City.
