U.S. Snags Fifth Place Finishes at Opener

CHANGCHUN, China (Jan. 5) – The U.S. took a pair of fifth place finishes at the FIS World Cup aerials opener in Changchun. Emily Cook (Belmont, MA) and Dylan Ferguson (Amesbury, MA) put up a strong fight against fierce international competition. Both Cook and Ferguson had World Cup podiums last season. Youngster and 2012 Rookie of the Year  Jonathon Lillis (Rochester, NY) scored a personal best World Cup finish placing seventh. Mengtao Xu and Zongyanj Jia, both of China, took the wins. The next stop for the aerials squad is Val Saint-Come, QC Jan. 12. The aerialists will then meet up with the moguls team for the first domestic event of the season at the USANA Freestyle Cup in Lake Placid Jan 17-19.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Emily Cook (Belmont, MA) and Dylan Ferguson (Amesbury, MA) took a pair of fifth place finishes at the FIS World Cup season opener in Changchun, China.
  • Cook competed a full, double full in her first round jump for a score of 92.70.
  • Ferguson competed a double full, full, full for a score of 122.62.
  • Cook was the only U.S. woman to move onto the finals round.
  • Ferguson and Jonathon Lillis were the two U.S. men to move into the finals round.
  • Youngster Mike Rossi, (Long Valley, NJ) posted his personal best finish, 14th in his first international World Cup.
  • Following the aerials opener, the team will head to Val Saint-Come, Canada Jan. 12 before meeting up with the moguls team Jan. 17-19 for the USANA Lake Placid Freestyle Cup.
