U.S. Selections: Moguls Recap

WINTER PARK, CO (Dec. 22, 2015) – It was an intense three days of competition as moguls athletes from the U.S., Australia, Austria, China and Bermuda battled it out on the moguls course Dec. 18-21 at U.S. Selections in Winter Park, CO. U.S. Selection events are held each December to qualify skiers for starts on the NorAm and World Cup Circuits.

In Friday’s moguls event, Ski and Snowboard Club Vail’s Emerson Smith (Frisco, CO) took the win for the men, with Troy Tully (Armonk, NY) second and Australia’s Rohan Chapman-Davies third. On the women’s side, Australian Jakara Anthony and Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Clubs’ Jaelin Kauf and Olivia Giaccio finished first, second and third.

Kauf stepped it up in Sunday’s second moguls event, taking the win for the women. Anthony was second, with U.S. Freestyle Ski Team member Nessa Dziemian rounding out the podium in third. On the men’s side, Joe Discoe dominated the field, finishing in the first position in both the qualifying round and final one before securing the win in final two. Tully and Chapman-Davies were also on the podium again, finishing second and third respectively.

Athletes closed out Selections with a dual moguls competition on Monday. Ski and Snowboard Club Vail’s Casey Andringa battled it out against teammate Emerson Smith in the finals, with Andringa taking the win. Winter Park’s Joel Hedrick was third. Elizabeth O’Connell of Telluride took the win for the women. Anthony earned her third podium of the weekend, finishing second, with Vail’s Kaitlyn Harrell third.

Lake Placid, NY is scheduled host the next stop for the World Cup, with the Nor Am tour heading to Calgary, Canada. The Putnam Investments Freestyle Cup in Lake Placid will take place Jan. 14-16 and the NorAm will take place Feb. 13-14.
