U.S. Freestyle Announces 2015 Junior Worlds Team

PARK CITY, UT (March 6, 2015) – A strong team of 16 athletes, including Morgan Schild (Pittsford, NY), Bruce Perry Jr. (Winter Park, CO), Chris Lillis (Rochester, NY) and Elle Gaudette (Maple Grove, MN), will represent the U.S. at the 2015 FIS Freestyle/Freeskiing Junior World Championships in Valmalenco, Italy March 22-April 4.

Both the aerial and mogul teams boast a stacked roster of experienced skiers who dominated the NorAm tour this season. Perry, who landed four NorAm podiums this season, finished second in the overall standings. Schild is coming off of her first World Cup win in dual moguls, besting some of the strongest mogul skiers in the world in Tazawako, Japan. Her performance on the NorAm tour has also been impressive this season. Schild finished second in both moguls and dual moguls at last year’s Junior Worlds.

On the aerial side, Lillis and Zach Surdell (Marcellus, MI) finished second and third in the men’s overall NorAm standings this season, with five podiums and four podiums respectively. Surdell also had a top-10 finish at the World Cup in Deer Valley, finishing seventh. Minnesota native Gaudette lead the U.S. women on the NorAm tour this season, finishing second in the overall standings with four podium finishes. Si Ning Chan (Maine, NY) also had a strong season, with two NorAm podiums and a World Cup top-10.

The 2015 Junior Worlds will also feature competitions in slopestyle skiing, halfpipe skiing and ski cross. Live scoring will be provided by FIS Freestyle.

QUOTES

Todd Schirman, U.S. Freestyle Ski Team Program Director
The USSA is very excited for the athletes that have qualified for the 2015 Junior World Championship Team. There is a mix of athletes with World Cup and NorAm experience that will show off their talents and compete against the best Junior athletes in the world. Congratulations to the athletes that have earned the opportunity to represent the United States on a world stage in Valmalenco Italy. This is an amazing team and we look forward to their success.

Zach Surdell, U.S. Freestyle Ski Team aerial athlete
I’m super excited to head to Europe and go to Switzerland for the first time (for a Europa cup) and return to Valmalenco. Hopefully I can get myself a Junior Worlds title. I’m excited to jump again with some teammates from EADP. Hopefully we can continue to jump as well as we have throughout the season and put up some good results.
