Teller Leads USA in Skicross Finale

LA PLAGNE, France (March 23) – Olympian John Teller (Mammoth Lakes, CA) once again posted the top result for the USA, skiing into 17th during the skicross finale at the FIS Freestyle Skiing World Cup Finals. Teller ended the season ranked 13th in the World Cup standings, just 24 points from the top ten. Jean Frederic Chapuis of France earned the day’s victory, while Victor Oehling Norberg of Sweden took the skicross title.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Olympian John Teller (Mammoth Lakes, CA) once again posted the top result for the USA, skiing into 17th during the skicross finale at the FIS Freestyle Skiing World Cup Finals.
  • The U.S. Freeskiing athlete earned a start at the finale, which featured the discipline’s top-32 skiers competing for a final shot at World Cup points.
  • Teller wound up ranked 13th in the World Cup skicross standings, just 24 points from the top ten. He was also the sole U.S. skicross athlete at the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games, finishing 28th.
  • Fellow U.S. athlete Joe Swensson (Niantic, CT) skied into 29th during the finale.
  • Jean Frederic Chapuis of France earned the day’s victory with Christoph Wahrstoetter of Austria second and Brady Leman of Canada third.
  • The fight for the skicross title came down to the wire, eventually going to Victor Oehling Norberg of Sweden despite a fall and 13th-place finish. Norberg went home with the globe, besting Andreas Matt of Austria by only 12 points. German Daniel Bohnacker took the third spot.
  • A snowstorm Saturday threatened to cancel the competition, but course workers spent hours clearing the new snow from the course to provide a decent race surface that showcased the world-class skicross action.
