VEYSONNAZ, Switzerland (Mar. 25, 2017) — Alex Deibold (Boulder, CO) took second place on Saturday at the final FIS World Cup individual snowboardcross race of the 2017 season.
It was Deibold’s second World Cup podium finish this year, after taking third at the Solitude Mountain Toyota U.S. Grand Prix in January. “I had a strong start to the season,” the 2014 Olympic bronze medalist said after the race. “It feels great to end up on a high note; I can’t wait for next season.”
Pierre Vaultier of France won the race, picking up his fifth snowboardcross World Cup title in the process. Alex Pullin of Australia was third.
Nick Baumgartner (Iron River, MI) and Jonathan Cheever (Saugus, MA) battled it out in the small final, finishing seventh and eighth respectively.
For the ladies, Danielle Steinhoff (Colfax, CA) was the top American finisher, placing 18th out of the quarterfinals. Charlotte Bankes of France won, Eva Samkova of the Czech Republic claimed second and the overall 2017 title and Michela Moioli of Italy was third.
Sunday the U.S. Snowboarding snowboardcross athletes will see their final World Cup competition of the season when they face off in the team race.
