Mastro Third At Rev Tour Halfpipe

COPPER MOUNTAIN, CO (Dec. 8, 2016) – Maddie Mastro (Wrightwood, CA) hit the podium with a third-place finish at the U.S. Revolution Tour at Copper Mountain on Thursday. It was a highly-contested event, as it was the first halfpipe competition of the winter season and the first Olympic-standard halfpipe to open in the United States.

Topping the podium for the women’s event were Chinese athletes Liu Jiayu in first and Cai Xuetong in second. Also making the final for the U.S., Zoe Kalapos (Vail, CO) finished fifth.

The U.S. men had a strong showing, with Ryan Wachendorfer (Edwards, CO) leading the charge in fourth place. Wancheng Shi of China was first and the Swiss rounded out the podium with Pat Burgener in second and Jan Scherrer in third.

Also in the top 10 for the men: Chase Blackwell (Longmont, CO) was fifth, Toby Miller (Truckee, CA) was seventh and Benji Farrow (Ludlow, VT) was 10th.

The U.S. Revolution Tour at Copper Mountain continues on Friday with freeski halfpipe. Next up for the snowboarders is the U.S. Grand Prix, also held at Copper Mountain, Dec. 14-17.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Maddie Mastro was third for the women. Run 2 (80.5): Frontside 540, backside 540, crippler, frontside 720, Cab 360.
  • The U.S. Revolution Tour is the place for top amateur skiers and snowboarders to prove their merit and transition from competing at grassroots to the elite level.
  • The freeskiers will compete next at the Copper Mountain Rev Tour, before the Tour moves on to Waterville Valley, NH in January.
