Kim and Bretz Lead Halfpipe Qualification

Park City, UT (Feb. 4, 2016) – The U.S. qualified eight snowboarders to the finals of the U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix at Park City on Thursday, with Chloe Kim (La Palma, CA) earning the top spot for the women. The American men claimed the top four qualification spots, with Greg Bretz (Mammoth Lakes, CA) leading the way in the No. 1 spot.

Kim, who is fresh off a gold-medal performance at the X Games Aspen, rode cleanly with big amplitude to top the field. Maddie Mastro (Wrightwood, CA), Kelly Clark (West Dover, VT) and Arielle Gold (Steamboat Springs, C) also qualified for the finals, finishing second, fourth and fifth respectively.

For the men, Matt Ladley (Steamboat Springs, CO), who also won gold in SuperPipe at the X Games in Aspen, qualified in second. Jake Pates (Eagle, CO) was third and Brett Esser (Breckenridge, CO) was fourth.

Men’s and women’s halfpipe finals are scheduled to be contested Saturday, Feb. 6, at noon (MST).

Today has been really good. I’m just coming off an injury - it’s only been about a week and a half. So my goal today was to come up here, take two practice runs and hopefully put down my first run and score high, maybe skip the second run to try to save my knee for finals.
