VAIL, CO (Mar. 2) – Kelly Clark (West Dover, VT) and Shaun White (Carlsbad, CA) took the halfpipe title at the Burton US Open Saturday. U.S. Snowboarding’s Louie Vito (Sandy, UT) took third and Hannah Teter (Belmont, VT) took second, her first podium of the season. Rookie Arielle Gold (Steamboat Springs, CO) took third.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Shaun White won men’s halfpipe, landing him his fifth halfpipe title at the Burton US Open.
  • Kelly Clark won women’s halfpipe (after losing last year to teammate Elena Hight), landing her sixth title at the US Open. In its 31 years, she has the most titles.
  • Clark's first run won and on her third and final run had the win locked up and threw a huge 1080, but didn’t stick it.
  • Hannah Teter (Belmont, VT) took second place.
  • U.S. Snowboarding's 16 year-old rookie athlete Arielle Gold (Steamboat Springs, CO) took third.
  • The Burton US Open had been held at Stratton Mountain for the past 30 years, but at its new home in Vail, CO, the 2013 US Open went off without at hitch.
  • The beautiful sunny weather brought the crowds and made for a good show in the halfpipe.
  • Clark's run: frontside 1080, cab 720, frontside 900, backside 540, frontside 540.

QUOTES
Kelly Clark
Being the winningest US Open champ is such an honor, it’s a big win for me today, especially since I grew up going to this event and it inspired me to be a snowboarder.
