COPPER MOUNTAIN, CO (Dec. 4) – The 2015 U.S. Freeskiing halfpipe and slopestyle teams, led by Olympic champions David Wise (Reno, NV), Maddie Bowman (S. Lake Tahoe, CA) and Joss Christensen (Park City, UT), were announced Thursday at the opening Sprint Grand Prix in Copper. This year’s team features a hard hitting roster of decorated Olympic medalists, including Nick Goepper (Lawrenceburg, IN), Devin Logan (West Dover, VT) and Gus Kenworthy (Telluride, CO), along with rookie skiers ready to make their mark on the U.S. Freeskiing scene. After a successful inaugural Olympic showing, there is much anticipation for freeskiing’s return to snow. The halfpipe skiers begin their competition season this week at the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix Dec. 1-6 at Copper Mountain, Co and will join the slopestyle skiers for their season kick off at the Dew Tour in Breckenridge, CO Dec. 11-14.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Stacked Roster: Six of the 36 athletes named to the 2015 U.S. Freeskiing team are newly decorated Olympic medalists including Olympic Champions David Wise, Maddie Bowman and Joss Christensen.
- Upstarts: Also named to the impressive roster were several members of last year’s rookie team including Maggie Voisin (Whitefish, MT), Lyman Currier (Boulder, CO) and Annalisa Drew (Andover, MA), who all made the 2014 Olympic team.
- Season Kickoff: Copper Mountain Resort will play host to the Visa U.S. Freeskiing Grand Prix, Sprint U.S. Grand Prix, the first FIS World Cup and Association of Freeskiing Professionals Platinum Level competition for halfpipe Dec. 1-6. The slopestyle skiers will kick their season off at the Dew Tour in Breckenridge, CO Dec. 11-14.
