The winter of 2012 was truly a breakout season for young snowboardcross rider Jackie Hernandez, as she won six out of the eight Nor-Ams she entered. She then quickly climbed the ranks of the World Cup circuit, ending with an impressive win at the final World Cup of the season in Valmalenco, Italy. That was enough for U.S. Snowboarding to snatch her up for the 2013 season.

Hernandez’s first year on the team went very well, as she advanced to a majority of the season’s snowboardcross finals and took eighth at the Blue Mountain World Cup. Unfortunately, at the Canyons Grand Prix in March 2013 she took a spill and injured her arm.

She was all fixed up in time for the 2014 season and came out swinging as the top American, taking sixth at the World Cup opener in Montafon, Austria. Another top-10 finish at Vallnord, Andorra secured her a spot on her first Olympic team. A hard fall in Sochi during time trials sidelined Hernandez for the rest of the season, but she’ll be back in 2015 to pick up where she left off.

          FIRST TRACKS
Hernandez started skiing at Mount Snow, VT with her family when she was five years old. Three years later the Hernandez family moved to Hunter, New York, and when she was eight years old, the entire Hernandez family switched to snowboarding. She hasn’t looked back since.

          OFF THE SNOW
Hernandez has her own Harley Davidson and you can often find her out riding it—sometimes with her Dad, who also owns a Harley. She also likes to swim.
