Rocky/Central U16 Region Junior Championship Selections

The Central Division selections for the Rocky/Central U16 (YOB 02/03) Jr Championships

Selection rankings will be posted below

2017-18 Central Division qualify criteria for the RC U16 Championships

Athletes that are invited to and attend the NTG will be automatics to the RC U16 Regional Junior Championships.
Automatics will be included in the overall divisional quota.  Automatic athletes will be named in the divisional quota before the 2 Central Regional series quotas are divided based on population. Automatics will not be counted in the in the Central Region's populations for quota (Q) determination.

The Central Division will hold 2 qualifying series. As approved at the 2014 Fall CASC meetings: Central Region 1 (CR1) will have a qualifying series and Central Region 2,3,4 (CR234) will have a qualifying series for selections to the Rocky/Central Junior Championships (RCJC). Thus the division will have 2 qualifying series in the Division – (CR1, CR234). The series should be held over at least 2 weekends (2 3 day weekends preferred). Each series will host 2 SG, 2 GS and 2 SL USSA scored races. USSA points will seed athletes for these events. Athletes will be selected for the RC Regional Championships by using the best three of six U16 results from 2SG/2GS/2SL races (only one of the SG’s may count).  Rankings per race will be determined by using World Cup points (top 30) in each USSA scored race. Using the single best result will break ties. If a tie still exists, the next best result would be used, and this process will continue until the tie is broken.

USSA members holding an X (foreign) license that are living & attending school in the USA and training and competing in the central division may qualify for the R/C championships within the quotas. Central will then have an additional 4 quota spots total (men & women) for the qualified X licensees. These X licenses must still qualifiy within the Central quota. These X athletes are now eligible for the U16 National Championships if placing within the RC quota.

Eligible athletes must be full time members of the Central Division and their local Central Region (CR) by the January 31 registration deadline to compete and qualify at events. Athletes need to be registered with their local CR prior to that Jan 31 deadline if qualification events take place prior to Jan 31.The full time memberships and #’s are to be reported to the Central Manager who will share with the CASC executive committee Feb 1 for quota allocations for the 2 series.

Each series will hold 2 discretion spots per gender. The central development committee will consider discretion requests and will rule on those ASAP following the final series race. If there are no requests then the 2 discetion spots will move down the list to the next ranked athletes.

See the Region 1 website for details on the CR1 series:
Indianhead SG
Giants Ridge GS
Afton Alps SL

The Central Region 234 (CR234) series will comprise of the Shelly Glover weekend (Jan 12-14) and the Hosking CR234 Jr Championships Feb 23-25, both at Marquette Mtn.

There will be an Alpine Combined (SG & one run SL) at the Glover on Friday but that will NOT be a U16Q.
The Glover weekend will hold GS and SL scored races for CR234 U16 qualifiing on Sat/Sun.

The Hosking will have 2 SG, 1 GS and 1 SL race for each gender. These are all U16Q events. One run of slalom will also be held in conjunction with the 2nd SG race to score Alpine Combined results and awards at the Hosking. However, only the SG portion of the Alpine Combined may count for RC U16 qualifying.

2016 Central Division U16 Quota for U16 RCJC = 90

Please note these are total quota spots below. No Automatics this season.

Note: Each gender is reduced by 2 for possible development discretion if needed (I.E. CR1 18W, 22M to start, etc)

Selections for the Can Am will continue down the Overall Ranking list with the first non-U16 National Qualified athletes.

Ties will be broken by the U16 National method.  Athletes are seeded by their ranking order.

Rocky/Central quota for the event is 5 men and 5 women.

Selection: Athletes will be selected by using an ITS in the following order of the two one run Slalom's and two one run Giant Slaloms.  Athletes attending the U16 National Championships will be included in the ITS and purged from the final ranking list as they are not eligible to attend both the Eastern U14 CAN AM and U16 National Championships.  Athletes are seeded by their ranking order.

US Nationals Selections

2018 US Alpine FIS Championships at Sun Valley

Rocky/Central Selections to US Nationals

Rocky/Central quota to USN National Championships is 14 men and 12 women.

1.     Automatics – Top – 2 RC USA athletes, who are not already selected in the National US Nationals selection, ranked at the intent deadline by an NTSM of World Cup points in SL, GS and SG in the Nor Am and NPS series. (2 men and 2 women from Nor Am Standings and 2 men from NPS). All Automatic athletes will be purged before the Regional Selections are put together.

2.     The regional selection, consisting of 8 Men and 8 women, will be filled by using a standard double board selection method. The board has two sides. The first side is a ranking using World Cup Points for results earned in head to head competition. There will be two series of races: 2SG/2GS in RMD and 3SL in Central, the slalom column will be determined by using the best 2 of 3 slalom results. The results will be purged of all non-Rocky/Central competitors. The second part of the board is based on USSA points from the list valid on the selection date. A column is established for each event on each part of the board. The column will be listed in the order SL, GS and SG; which will be the order of selection. The Rocky/Central Ski Cup portion of the board will be first, followed by the USSA points portion of the board. (See example below)

3.     One spot per gender will be awarded to the RC Junior FIS Champion. Overall Champion will be determined by using World Cup points in the 2GS/2SL, all non-RC athletes will be purged. In the event the Overall Winner has already qualified for US Nationals the spot will revert to Regional Selection method in #2 and the next RC athlete on the ranking list that has not been selected will be awarded the spot.

4.     Discretionary spots awarded to 1 for each gender to be decided by Rocky/CentraDirector, Rocky/Central Coach, RMD Manager and Central Manager.

Example of double board

WC point system summary:

Place Points 1st-100, 2nd-80, 3rd-60, 4th-50, 5th-45, 6th-40, 7th-36, 8th-32, 9th-29, 10th-26,11th-24, 12th-22, 13th-20, 14th-18, 15th-16, 16th-15, 17th-14, 18th-13, 19th-12, 20th-11, 21st-10, 22nd-9, 23rd-8, 24th-7, 25th-6, 26th-5, 27th-4, 28th-3, 29th-2, 30th-1

The top 30 competitors will receive place points based on World Cup Point Ranking System (100, 80, 60, 50, 45, 40, 36, 32, 29, 26, 24,22,20, 18, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1). In the case of a tie for one of the top 30 places, each tied racer receives the points corresponding to that position. The following racers receive the points for their finish position. (E.g. a tie for 2nd: racer 1 – 100 points, racers 2 and 3 - 80 points each, racer 4 - 50 points, etc.)

All races contested per event will be used in calculating each racers World Cup points in that event. If a tie remains after all results have been considered, a racer who started the series with higher seed points will be ranked in front of racers who started the series with lower seed points in the event. Placing the racer with the best ranking on the New World Cup point board first breaks a tie on the seed point board.

Selection Procedure

Selection proceeds from left to right on each row starting with World Cup points and ending with seed points. When a racer who has already been picked is encountered in a column, the column is skipped and selection continues with the next column in the same row. When the last column in a row is reached, selection continues with the first column in the next row. Only events scheduled in the Championship Event will be part of the selection board.
