The purpose of the alpine program is to support the vision and mission of the USSA to make the United States the best in the world in Olympic skiing and snowboarding. The mission is to provide strong leadership that establishes and supports athletic excellence in accordinace with USSA's core values as well as design a clear path for achievement in the sport of alpine ski racing. The development of an alpine athlete spans many years and takes the support of parents, coaches, clubs and the USSA through quality event production, training teams and projects, and education.

The Alpine Training System is an outline developed by the coaches and sport science staff with the help of several top coaches from around the country to define the optimal training, competition and recovery programming for a ski racer through each phase in their development that will give them the greatest chance to maximize their long-term potential and enjoyment in alpine ski racing. Learn more here.

The SkillsQuest program has been designed to motivate and provide rewards to junior ski racers who work toward developing their fundamental skills in skiing as well as fitness, mental strength and other important attributes that lead to a successful ski racer. It includes a skiing skills assessment and conditioning assessment and can be used by coaches and clubs. Find out more about

As ski racers improve with practice and experience, opportunities for special training and competition opportunities with divisional, regional and national training groups and teams may become available. These activities, with the continued support of the clubs, create a pipeline toward the elite team programs of the U.S. Ski Team. Learn more.

For most ski racers, the bulk of their development opportunities will be offered within their regions, divisions or states. Find your region's information on development here.
