USSA SuperTour Kicks Off in Montana

WEST YELLOWSTONE, MT (Nov. 27, 2015) – On a day that began with delayed races due to subzero temperatures, the USSA SuperTour opened with the 1.3k freestyle sprint on Friday. Jennie Bender (Bridger Ski Foundation) - a two-time sprint national champion - dominated in the women’s race and Logan Hanneman (Alaska Pacific University) stole first with 50m to go for the men on the Rendezvous Trails in West Yellowstone, MT.

In the men’s competition Reese Hanneman (Alaska Pacific University) finished second and Dakota Blackhorse-Von (Bend Endurance Academy) finished third.  Following Bender was Hannah Halverson (Sugar Academy) in second and Dahria Beatty (Whitehorse/ NST-AWCA) in third.


The women competed in the 1.3 skate sprint at the USSA SuperTour. (USSA-Bryan Fish)

U.S. Ski Team members Katherine Ogden (Landgrove, MN) and Ben Saxton (Lakeville, MN) moved on to the quarterfinals after the qualifiers, finishing 22nd and 10th, respectively. Saxton progressed to the semifinals in the lucky loser position.

The action continues at 9:00 a.m. MT on Saturday for a 15k/10k freestyle race.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Logan Hanneman (Alaska Pacific University) stole first with 50m to go for the men, Reese Hanneman (Alaska Pacific University) finished second and Dakota Blackhorse-Von (Bend Endurance Academy) finished third.
  • Jennie Bender (Bridger Ski Foundation) dominated in the woman’s race followed by Hannah Halverson (Sugar Academy) in second and Dahria Beatty (Whitehorse/ NST-AWCA) in third.
  • U.S. Ski Team members Katherine Ogden (Landgrove, MN) was 22nd and Ben Saxton (Lakeville, MN) 10th moved on to the quarterfinals after the qualifiers.
  • Brian Gregg (Team Gregg/Madshus) and Saxton progressed to the semifinals as lucky losers.
