PARK CITY, UT (May 17, 2016) – Nine clubs achieved certification this season in the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association’s (USSA) podium certification process, part of the USSA’s club development program. The clubs were recognized last week at the annual USSA Club Excellence Conference in Park City, UT.

“We had clubs from every one of our regions achieve certification this year,” stated Brian Krill, USSA’s director of sport education. “With five clubs achieving bronze certification, we can see the momentum behind this program and its value to the clubs as they continue to serve their athletes, communities and missions.”

Through the club certification program, the USSA works in close partnership with member clubs to recognize excellence and create a platform for continued success. Sky Tavern, one of this year’s bronze certified clubs, is a unique example of a 501c3 non-profit that not only runs learn to ski and intro to racing programs, but also runs both summer and winter ski area operations.

“Ski Tavern is proud to have achieved bronze certification,” said Executive Director Bill Henderson. “It’s great to see that the USSA recognizes the importance of programs like ours that bring thousands of kids to the sports. David Wise got his start here at Ski Tavern and he went on to fulfill his Olympic dreams.”

The podium level certification process involves a rigorous self-study and peer review of best principles and practices for ski and snowboard clubs. Certified clubs are recognized for achieving a strong balance between athletics, business and community.

“USSA’s club certification process was a great opportunity for us to evaluate where we stand across our entire organization,” said Jim Boyne, executive director of gold certified Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. “We were able to examine both our strengths and opportunities to improve to help us in our continued pursuit of excellence. Seeing the level of engagement in this process by our team, athletes and parents, and our community partners was very rewarding.”

More than 20 clubs are on deck to start the certification process in 2016-17. For more information on the USSA’s club certification process, visit www.ussa.org.
