PARK CITY, UT (Dec. 1) – U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association Medical Director Kyle Wilkens has announced several changes to the USSA Medical Committee for the 2014-15 season. Dr. Vern Cooley (Park City, UT) and Dr. Randy Viola (Vail, CO) will act as Head Team Physicians for the men’s alpine Program. Dr. Cooley has been a member of the Medical Committee for many years as the Alpine Development Team Physician. He and Dr. Viola have had long standing relationships with the men’s alpine team and other USSA programs.
Dr. Bill Sterett (Vail, CO) and Dr. Jeff Harrison (Ogden, UT) will now be Head Team Physicians for women’s alpine. Harrison joins the committee after being a long-time volunteer pool member. Dr. Larry Gaul (Vail, CO) will now act as Chief Medical Officer for the Medical Committee and Head Team Physician for the Cross Country Ski Team. He will also continue his role as the USA FIS Medical Committee Representative.
Dr. Jon Finnoff (Minneapolis, MN) has been named Team Physician for nordic combined. Dr. Finnoff, another long-time pool member, was also part of the medical team for nordic combined at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. Dr. Terry Orr (South Lake Tahoe, CA) has stepped down as Head Team Physician for men’s alpine, but has agreed to continue as Special Advisor to the Medical Committee. Dr. Orr has been with the Medical Committee through many Olympic cycles, and his continued participation will be invaluable to the Medical Committee.
