USA Second in Team SBX

VEYSONNAZ, Switzerland (March 17) – Inches from victory, Nick Baumgartner (Iron River, MI) and Nate Holland (Squaw Valley, CA) took a photo finish second at the third and final FIS World Cup snowboardcross team event. Canadian team Christopher Robanske and Robert Fagan won the race. Jonathan Cheever (Saugus, MA) and Seth Wescott (Sugarloaf, ME) slid into third. Faye Gulini (Salt Lake City, UT) and Callan Chythlook-Sifsof (Girdwood, AK) also elbowed their way into third place while Maelle Ricker Dominique Maltais took the women’s top spot for Canada. U.S. Snowboarding goes to Sierra Nevada, Spain for more World Cup snowboardcross action on Thursday.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Nick Baumgartner (Iron River, MI) and Nate Holland (Squaw Valley, CA) took a photo finish second at the third and final FIS World Cup snowboardcross team event in Veysonnaz, Switzerland.
• Canadian team Christopher Robanske and Robert Fagan won with a quick lunge at the finish line that was just enough to put them on top of the podium.
• Jonathan Cheever (Saugus, MA) and Seth Wescott (Sugarloaf, ME) battled with Baumgartner and Holland through the quarter and semi finals and then skidded into third in the finals race.
• Faye Gulini (Salt Lake City, UT) and Callan Chythlook-Sifsof (Girdwood, AK) elbowed their way into third place for the women.
• Canadians Maelle Ricker Dominique Maltais took the women’s top spot.
• After many years of growth, Sunday’s event was the first time a snowboardcross team event was held outside the USA.

Amazing to have the team depth to get three teams on the podium. Tough to get second in a photo finish, but the level of riding was incredible. It was a very successful team event and the first one outside the USA. Switzerland did a great job putting it on. Yes, not easy to go 1,2 two rounds in a row, too bad we didn't do it 3 times in a row.
