ESTO-SADOK, Russia (Feb. 17) – Team USA went head-to-head against 11 other nations Monday night on the large hill at the RusSki Gorki Jumping Center, finishing 10th at the final ski jumping event of the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games. The four-man American team put down some solid jumps but was not able to advance to the eight-team final round, where Germany went on to take gold. The event will be broadcast on NBC’s Latenight Olympic coverage at 1:00 a.m. EST, but it can also be streamed in its entirety on NBCOlympics.com.

My jump was close to where I was hoping for, just a little off, but it’s definitely moving in a positive direction so that’s good. The hill here is difficult. It’s a little different and it’s been a little tricky to get used to, but it’s a lot like the newer hills that they’re building these days. So it just takes a little getting used to.
Some of the older hills were a little bit steeper, especially in the in-run. So the pressure coming into the first curve of the in-run, you’d kind of feel that load with your legs. These hills are a little bit longer curved and flatter so it’s hard to get that pressure from the legs. It’s a bit difficult to judge and a bit difficult to feel naturally. You have to force a little bit of feeling, but that’s how hills are being built these days so it’s something you’ve got to get used to.

My jump was alright. I always would have wanted it to be a little better. But it was a great day. Conditions were definitely a little warm, but that didn’t stop me.
It was just an amazing experience. Being able to represent your country is incredible. It’s not like you’re wearing a team logo or team uniform, you’re actually wearing a nation’s flag. To be able to do it with all the other athletes and other U.S. Olympians competing against the world…it’s a great experience.
Our objective was to go out and have some fun. We would like results, as always, but mainly we’re just here to have fun and make sure we have good jumps.

Obviously my week didn’t go how I wanted it to. I wasn’t really in it for one of the top positions. I’ve been having trouble timing the whole week, so it’s tough and I’m not trying to think about it too much. I’m just trying to move on.
