PARK CITY, Utah (Jan. 28) – Only one man has ever won Olympic snowboardcross – two-time gold medalist Seth Wescott. On a January weekend in Andorra, Wescott had one last shot at making the 2014 Olympic Team in the final qualifier for the Sochi team. Echo Entertainment captured the emotion of those pressure-packed final days in an NBCSN special, U.S. Snowboarding 36 presented by Sprint, as Wescott saw his time run out, but proudly passed the torch to rising new sport star Trevor Jacob. The 30-minute special will debut on the eve of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, airing this Thursday, Jan. 30 at 6:30 p.m. EST on NBCSN.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • U.S. Snowboarding 36 presented by Sprint, an emotional, riveting story of Olympic champion Seth Wescott’s valiant bid to defend his two gold medals, will air this Thursday, Jan. 30 at 6:30 p.m. on NBCSN.
  • Echo Entertainment Producer Brendan Harty takes viewer’s behind the scenes at the final Olympic qualifying World Cup in Andorra, as Wescott has only two shots at gaining a spot on the 2014 Olympic Team.
  • The program conveys the emotion for Wescott as he sees his run potentially come to an end, along with the dynamics of perennial X Games star Nate Holland as he battles a fractured clavicle and the hopes of sport newcomer Trevor Jacob as he seeks to find his way to the top in a sport that’s jam packed with on the edge, bumping and banging snowboarding.
  • The Seth Wescott feature is the third in a series from the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association and Echo Entertainment. Last year’s U.S. Ski Team 36 featuring Ted Ligety has been seen by over a million viewers. A similar U.S. Ski Team 36 feature on Bode Miller has garnered over 750,000 views.
  • The programs are a part of a unique partnership between the USSA and NBC Universal to bring viewers behind the scenes content of America’s top Olympic hopefuls. The USSA is the only Olympic sports organization producing similar content going into the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
  • Also airing on the eve of the Olympics will be U.S. Freeskiing 36 with halfpipe legend Simon Dumont as he makes a passionate attempt to make his sport’s first ever Olympic Team.
  • Dumont, one of the driving forces behind the evolution of freeskiing and its rapid rise to the Olympics, put himself into Sochi contention with a strong performance at the Visa U.S. Freeskiing Grand Prix at Breckenridge. It all would come down to the final two events in the Park City Mountain Resort finale.
