U.S. Revolution Tour Concludes at Sun Valley

SUN VALLEY, ID (March 7) – Pop-Tarts U.S. Revolution Tour skiers finished up their season in style at Idaho’s Sun Valley Resort after a hectic week at Mammoth Mountain. Freeskiers made up for cancellations last week by dropping into the halfpipe for two separate competitions Tuesday. Jacob Beebe (Bend, OR) and Jeanne Crane-Mauzy (Park City, UT) won the men’s and women’s halfpipe in the morning, while the afternoon saw Broby Leeds (Vail, CO) and Abigale Hansen (Mammoth Lakes, CA) take top honors. With their early wins, Crane-Mauzy and Beebe each wrapped up overall halfpipe titles, capping successful seasons on the Tour.

Wednesday was also the last day for Rev Tour slopestyle skiing as Ethan Swadburg (Dillon, CO) and Emma Whitman (Calgary, AB) earned wins in the men’s and women’s competition. With the win, Swadburg added a Rev Tour overall slopestyle title to his resume, an honor that went to Kathryn Alexander (S. Lake Tahoe, CA) on the women’s side. That concludes freeskiing action for the 2014 Rev Tour, with halfpipe snowboarding dropping in on Thursday.

• Beebe’s winning run: leftside 900, rightside 540 safety, leftside 540 safety, rightside 720 japan, switch 540 critical, alley-oop shifty and 720 mute.
• Broby Leeds (Vail, CO) snagged first in the second halfpipe event with an 86.60. Beebe finished second and Kristopher Atkinson (Calgary, AB) rounded out the podium in third.
• Beebe’s two podiums earned him the Rev Tour men’s overall halfpipe title.
• Jeanne Crane-Mauzy (Park City, UT) won the women’s Mammoth make-up halfpipe event, earning a 75.25. On her heels were Abigale Hansen (Mammoth Lakes, CA) and Simone Augspurger (Basalt, CO).
• Crane-Mauzy’s winning run: rightside 540, leftside 540, rightside 360, switch leftside 360, tail grab, japan grab and rightside 720.
• In the afternoon it was Hansen’s turn to top the podium, scoring an 80.00. Mackenzie Wilson (Whistler, BC) finished second and Cassandra Sharpe (Whistler, CO) third.
• Hansen’s winning run: straight air mute, leftside 540, rightside 540 safety, straight air, rightside 360 safety and switch leftside 540.
• The morning win was enough for Crane-Mauzy to sew up the Rev Tour women’s overall halfpipe title.
• Ethan Swadburg (Dillon, CO) won the men’s slopestyle event with an 86.25. Trailing him were Jonah Williams (Park City, UT) and Tim Ryan (Gilford, NH).
• Swadburg’s winning run: backside surface switch-up to frontside 270, switch rightside double wobble 900 double mute grab, bio 900 blunt, switch 270 pretzel 270 out.
• With the win, Swadburg secured the Rev Tour men’s overall slopestyle crown.
• Emma Whitman (Calgary, AB) was the women’s slopestyle winner with an 84.50, while Nikita Rubocki (Boise, ID) took second and Hailey Cecie third.
• It came down to points for the Rev Tour women’s overall champion, a distinction that went to Kathryn Alexander (S. Lake Tahoe, CA) in the end.
• The Sun Valley stop concludes skiing action for the 2014 Pop-Tarts U.S. Revolution Tour. The final Rev Tour competitions for snowboarding wrap up on Friday.

I struggled a bit in the morning, but in the end I put it together and ended up landing two runs I was happy with. In the morning I was a little bit nervous, but in the afternoon I calmed down and focused on my skiing instead of everything else.

My run didn’t go as planned today, but I still had a lot of fun. I wasn’t expecting the overall win at all, then somebody told me and I couldn’t believe it! It really came down to the wire.

Ethan Swadburg
The competition was the highest level I have competed against. It’s been nuts. There were definitely some runs that I thought were better than mine, but I can’t complain in the end.
