U.S. Freeskiing Athletes Top AFP Rankings

WHISTLER, BC (April 24) – A crew of U.S. Freeskiing athletes took the top spots of the final AFP world rankings list after the season came to a close Saturday at the AFP World Championships. Once the final results were in, The Sarah Burke Overall Champion Trophy was awarded to Olympic medalist Gus Kenworthy (Telluride, CO) for the fourth-straight year, while Olympic medalist Devin Logan (West Dover, VT) earned the women’s overall trophy for the third time. HIGHLIGHTS

  • A crew of U.S. Freeskiing athletes took the top spots of the final AFP world rankings list after the season came to a close Saturday at the AFP World Championships at Whistler.
  • Once the final results were in, the Sarah Burke Overall Champion Trophy was awarded to Olympic medalist Gus Kenworthy (Telluride, CO) for the fourth-straight year, while Olympic medalist Devin Logan (West Dover, VT) earned the overall for the women for the third time (2011, 2012, 2014). Lyman Currier (Boulder, CO) finished third in the men’s overall with Aaron Blunck (Crested Butte, CO) in fourth.
  • In the final AFP women’s halfpipe rankings, Maddie Bowman (S. Lake Tahoe, CA) lead a U.S. Freeskiing sweep with Brita Sigourney (Carmel, CA) second and Angeli VanLaanen third.
  • Nick Goepper (Lawrenceburg, IN) also led a sweep of the final AFP men’s slopestyle rankings with Bobby Brown (Breckenridge, CO) and Kenworthy.
  • Devin Logan finished second in the final women’s slopestyle AFP world ranking with newcomer Maggie Voison (Whitefish, MT) in third. Canada’s Dara Howell took the 2014 AFP slopestyle title.
  • Olympic gold medalist David Wise (Reno, NV) took home third place in the AFP world halfpipe rankings while Aaron Blunck (Crested Butte, CO) took second and Kevin Rolland of Canada was crowned the new halfpipe world champion.
  • The 2014 AFP World Championships featured slopestyle and big air contests. However, due to foggy weather, the slopestyle finals on Sunday were canceled. Results from semi finals stood as final results.
  • The weekend’s event marked the official end of the competition season for 2014. Full results can be found here.
