SOCHI UPDATE: Sunday Feb. 2

The FIS Alpine and Cross Country World Cups finished up their pre-Olympic run Sunday, as athletes headed to Sochi for the opening later this week of the Olympic Winter Games. The Rosa Khutor Extreme Park was active over the weekend with moguls skiers plus slopestyle skiing and snowboarding athletes getting in first training runs.

ALPINE
Men's Giant Slalom, St. Moritz

  • Ted Ligety powered to a 1.51 second margin of victory to win the final pre-Olympic Audi FIS Alpine World Cup GS.
  • Tim Jitloff was 17th.
  • Weather claimed Saturday's planned downhill.
  • The men open the Olympics next Sunday with downhill.
  • TV: 1 p.m. EST, Universal Sports

FREESKIING, Rosa Khutor Extreme Park, Sochi

  • Slopestyle skiers hit the Sochi course on Sunday for first training at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park.
  • Opening event is women's slopestyle on Tuesday, Feb. 11.

FREESTYLE

  • After a tremendous pre-Olympic camp in Steamboat Springs, moguls skiers hit the course at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park this weekend.
  • Opening event is women's moguls, with qualifying Thursday and finals Saturday.
  • Hannah Kearney is looking to defend her 2010 gold medal.
  • Aerials athletes are continuing to train at Deer Valley Resort before heading to Sochi later this week.

NORDIC COMBINED

  • Nordic combined skiers have been training in Park City but are headed to Sochi this week
  • Opening event for nordic combined is Wednesday, Feb. 12 with the normal hill competition.

SKI JUMPING

  • Ski jumpers will be en route to Sochi with training later this week.
  • Men's qualifying on the normal hill is Saturday with finals Sunday.
  • Debut of omen's jumping on Tuesday, Feb. 11.

SNOWBOARDING

  • Snowboarders his the slopestyle training course this weekend for their first training.
  • The Olympic debut of slopestyle begins Thursday with men's qualifying; medal round set for Saturday.
