BOKWANG, South Korea (Feb. 18, 2016) – The official Olympic freeskiing test event will take place at the venue for the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics this weekend, with the first FIS World Cup slopestyle event ever held in South Korea.
Bokwang Phoenix Park features a three-jump and three-rail slopestyle course, purposely built for the 2018 Winter Olympics. The course was designed and created by German course builders Schneestern, famous for their terrain parks at Montafon, the Stubai Glacier and various other locations across Europe.
Olympic freeskiing hopefuls will spend valuable time familiarizing themselves with the slopestyle course that will be featured at the 23rd edition of the Olympic Winter Games as they also work towards the overall World Cup Crystal Globe award.
Qualifiers went down Thursday, with McRae Williams (Park City, UT) and Noah Wallace (Spokane, WA) the only two Americans to qualify for the men. Joss Christensen (Park City, UT), Colby Stevenson (Park City, UT), Willy Borm (Chaska, MN) and Nick Goepper (Lawrenceburg, IN) failed to make the cut. Maggie Voisin (Whitefish, MT) qualified for the women with Keri Herman (Bloomington, MN) and Devin Logan (West Dover, VT) not making it past the qualifier round.
