Shiffrin and Ligety Poised for Levi Slalom

LEVI, Finland (Nov. 13) – This weekend the Audi FIS Alpine World Cup tour travels to Levi for the second World Cup race of the season, the precursor to back-to-back speed weeks in Beaver Creek, CO. Top U.S. athletes Mikaela Shiffrin (Eagle-Vail, CO) and Ted Ligety (Park City, UT) will compete alongside a strong list of starters in the slalom races held Saturday and Sunday. Ligety is coming off his season-opening giant slalom win at Soelden, where Shiffrin had the best GS result of her career, finishing sixth. Watch both races live on Universal Sports starting at 6:30 a.m. ET Saturday, when the women take the hill. Men’s coverage airs at 6:30 a.m. ET Sunday.

  • Additional starters include Resi Stiegler (Jackson Hole, WY) and Paula Moltzan (Lakeville, MN) on the women’s team and Nolan Kasper (Warren, VT), David Chodounsky (Crested Butte, CO), Will Brandenburg (Spokane, WA) and Colby Granstrom (Lake Stevens, WA) on the men’s team.  
  • Ligety is coming off his season-opening giant slalom win at Soelden, where Shiffrin had the best GS result of her career, finishing sixth.
  • Ligety has been training extremely fast slalom and sees slalom as the key to his shot at an overall World Cup title.
  • Levi is north of the Arctic Circle and skiing will happen under the lights since the days are so short this time of year.
  • Both have been prepping with strong training at both the U.S. Ski Team Speed Center at Copper Mountain and Vail's Golden Peak – a competition site for the 2015 World Alpine Ski Championships.
  • Watch both races live on Universal Sports starting at 6:30 a.m. ET Saturday, when the women take the hill. Men’s coverage airs at 6:30 a.m. ET Sunday.
