Sarah Back on Jumping Podium in Japan

SAPPORO, Japan (Feb. 3) - Sarah Hendrickson (Park City, UT) climbed back onto the podium finishing third in a FIS Ski Jumping World Cup in Sapporo that was plaqued by erratic wind. Austrian Jaqueline Siefreidsberger picked up her career first victory with the win. Lindsey Van (Park City, UT) was eighth. The series now heads to Zao, Japan for a pair of events next weekend.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Sarah Hendrickson (Park City, UT) was third in a FIS Ski Jumping World Cup in Sapporo.
• Lindsey Van (Park City, UT) was eight with Jessica Jerome (Park City, UT) 15th.
• In a close competition, winner Jacqueline Seifriedsberger of Austria took the first jump lead with a 94.0 meter ride with Hendrickson second at 93.5. Norway's Anette Sagen launched a massive 99.0 meter second jump to move past Hendrickson into second.
• Van had jumps of 91.0 and 97.5 meters.
• The competition was up and down with erratic wind forcing multiple changes in the start. Saturday's second round canceled due to wind.
• In the night before Sunday's competition, a 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck near the island of Hokkaido with tremors felt in Sapporo, the site of the 1972 Olympics.
• The women's tour now heads to Zao, Japan next weekend.

It was typical weather for this area and made the comp very difficult. You never know what kind of wind you are going to get, so it is like a lotto game. I enjoy the randomness most of the time, though. It is an outdoor sport and is always fun.
