Park City Honors Bill Marolt

PARK CITY, UT (July 18) –The Park City Chamber/Bureau together with the City of Park City honored past U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) president and CEO Bill Marolt with presentation of the 2014 Myles Rademan Spirit of Hospitality Award at the Chamber/Bureau’s annual meeting and luncheon on July 16th. The award recognizes Marolt’s outstanding dedication to the community and vision for a successful resort economy. Marolt was USSA President and CEO for 18 years. In his career tenure with the USSA and earlier the U.S. Alpine Ski Team, he was responsible for leading U.S. athletes to 70 of the 95 Olympic medals won since 1924. Marolt was recognized for the role he and the USSA has played in bringing global prominence to Park City through sport.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Park City Chamber/Bureau and the City of Park City presented past USSA President and CEO Bill Marolt with the 2014 Myles Rademan Spirit of Hospitality Award.
  • The Spirit of Hospitality Award recognizes an individual each year for outstanding dedication to the community and vision for a successful resort economy.
  • The award was presented at the Chamber/Bureau’s annual meeting by Park City Mayor Jack Thomas and Deer Valley President Bob Wheaton.
  • Marolt served as President and CEO of the USSA for 18 years and in his two tenures with the USSA and U.S. Alpine Ski Team was responsible for leading U.S. athletes to 70 of the 95 Olympic medals won since 1924.
  • Using his influence in FIS, Marolt helped bring major international events to Park City including the Deer Valley World Cup, 2003 and 2011 World Freestyle Championships and the upcoming 2019 World Championships in freestyle, freeskiing and snowboarding.
  • Through his entire 18 years, Marolt worked in close partnership with City of Park City and the Chamber/Bureau to bring benefit to the community and a great sense of pride in USSA being located in Park City.
  • In his tenure, Marolt grew the USSA to become of the largest and most respected Olympic sports organizations in America and one of the largest year-round employers in Park City.
  • In 2009, the USSA opened its national training and education facility, the Center of Excellence, to complement the 2002 Olympic venues.
  • In the recent Olympics in Sochi, USSA athletes won 17 medals including three gold medals from Park City grown skiers and snowboarders.
