PARK CITY, UT (May 6, 2017) - U.S. Ski & Snowboard athletes and officials mourned the loss of Olympic bobsled champion Steven Holcomb, who passed away Saturday.

“Growing up in the Olympic community of Park City, Steve Holcomb had the opportunity to achieve his gold medal dream,” said U.S. Ski & Snowboard President and CEO Tiger Shaw. “He was an inspiration to many and will be missed. Our condolences go out to his family and the entire bobsled community.”

Holcomb grew up in Park City and was inspired at an early age to drive a bobsled at the Utah Olympic Park track. He is among a host of local athletes who were inspired by the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. He is one of four homegrown locals to have been motivated by the 2002 Olympics and go on to become gold medalists including Ted Ligety, Joss Christensen and Sage Kotsenburg.

Details are available from Team USA and USA Bobsled and Skeleton.
