BRECKENRIDGE, CO (Dec. 11, 2016) – It was redemption for Gus Kenworthy (Telluride, CO) at the Dew Tour on Sunday, when he joined forces with Atomic teammate Jossi Wells of New Zealand to take the win in the Team Challenge competition. Nick Goepper (Lawrenceburg, IN) and teammate Alex Beaulieu-Marchand of Canada took second place for Volkl, while Canada’s Evan McEachran teamed up with Jesper Tjader of Sweden to take third for Head.

Kenworthy came into the 2016 Dew Tour on a two-year winning streak, but placed dead last in the individual competition on Saturday. “I won slope here the last two years and I came in kinda trying to capitalize on that, but I just blew it.” Kenworthy said. “I just couldn’t put it down on the jump for a second run and I messed up on the rails yesterday, so I just wanted to land some runs today. It feels pretty good to put up some points for Atomic.”

The team event was new to the Dew Tour and unique for competitive freeskiing. Six brands—Volkl, Armada, K2, Faction, Head and Atomic—each put together a team of two skiers. One team member was to compete on the rail course and the other on the big air jump; the scores were to be combined to determine the overall team winners. However, due to windy, snowy conditions, the big air event was cancelled and both athletes took three runs on the rail course, counting their best overall run.

Kenworthy looked like a man out for redemption—his runs were solid and highlighted by the most technical trick on the most difficult feature—a switch lipslide 270 on to 630 off of the Jeep feature. Also contributing to his 90-point score was the fact that Kenworthy spun in all four directions onto the four rail features.

Goepper also turned in a highly-technical run. He earned the second-highest score of the event, a 91.33, with a run that included six 450s and was punctuated by a very difficult rightside 450 on to switch on the final rail.

Joss Christensen (Park City, UT) and Sean Jordan (Boulder, CO) took fourth place for K2; Quinn Wolferman (Missoula, MT) and Sweden’s Henrik Harlaut took fifth for Armada; Alex Hall (Park City, UT) and Tim McChesney (Park City, UT) were sixth for Faction.
