HIGHLIGHTS
Jessica Jerome (Park City, UT) landed the best World Cup result of her career Sunday with second at the women’s normal hill competition in Rasnov, Romania.
It was Jerome’s second World Cup podium after a third-place in Hinterzarten in 2012. She finished 10th in the women’s ski jumping debut at the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games in February.
Jerome jumped into fifth with her first 89-meter jump and answered with a 90.5-meter effort in the second round to put her on the podium.
She landed just behind Sara Takanashi of Japan in the second day of competition at the new Rasnov venue. It was Takanashi's 12th win of the season, and she has already secured the 2014 World Cup title. Evelyn Insam of Italy took third.
Jerome was the only U.S. athlete to compete in the event after Lindsey Van (Park City, UT) injured her left knee during a training jump Friday. Van is set to return to the U.S. to undergo further medical evaluation.
The women head to Oslo Sat. March 8 for a World Cup on the large hill at Holmenkollen.
QUOTES Jessica Jerome The conditions were very inconsistent both days and jumpers were either going to be unlucky or lucky. I was unlucky Saturday. Fortunately today I was somewhere in the middle of the luck. I got the rhythm of the hill better (Sunday) and I was able to put in two good jumps.
I'm very excited for large hills. The big hills are just more fun.
