PARK CITY, UT (April 24, 2015) – The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association’s (USSA) high performance director Troy Flanagan, who lead the integration of high performance services into the USSA’s elite teams which achieved to back-to-back record Olympic performances, will be leaving the organization this month. Flanagan has overseen high performance athletics, including sport science and sports medicine, since 2007. He is leaving to take a similar position with a National Basketball Association team.

“In his eight seasons with the USSA, Troy has helped our athletes achieve extraordinary goals through application of sport science,” said USSA Executive Vice President, Athletics Luke Bodensteiner. “He has been a strong contributor to the performance of our teams and has built a team of motivated staff at the USSA Center of Excellence who will carry on his work.”

Flanagan took over his role with the USSA in March 2007, following in the footsteps of predecessor Andy Walshe, who now oversees high performance programs for Red Bull.

An Australian native, Flanagan holds an honors degree from RMIT University in Melbourne, and a PhD in aerospace engineering. Prior to his role with the USSA, he worked as head of sport science at the Victorian Institute of Sport in Australia. He has been working with Olympic athletes since 1992.

“I would like to thank the high performance staff at USSA for their tireless work and support over the past eight years,” said Flanagan. “I would also like to acknowledge the athletes, coaches, administration and trustees for all their support. I look forward to seeing the athletes achieve more success in PyeongChang!”

Bodensteiner anticipates naming a successor this spring.
