Gold Medals Abundant at New York Gala

NEW YORK (Nov. 6) - Gold medals were the theme of the night at the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Foundation's 48th annual New York City Gala Thursday, Oct. 30. at the American Museum of Natural History. Olympic athletes of all disciplines were in attendance for an evening of fundraising to raise over $1 million to help support athletes of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA). Athletes also participated in pre-gala activities, including a media event for the 2015 FIS Alpine Ski World Championships in Vail/Beaver Creek and a salon session with USSA partner Paul Mitchell.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • A star-studded lineup of 30 Olympic medalists was on hand for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Foundation’s 48th annual New York Gold Medal Gala, held at the American Museum of Natural History on Oct. 30.
  • Big turnout: Over 550 people from across the country were in attendance, including event Co-Chairmen Jim Benedict and Richard Tutino Jr. and many of the Foundation Trustees.
  • Here’s Jonny: Olympic champion Jonny Moseley was the evening’s MC, talking to Olympic medalists on stage
  • Athletes: 32 athletes were in attendance, including 15 Olympic Champions as well as numerous World Champions.
  • Million dollars: The Gold Medal Gala is the Foundation’s largest event of the year, raising over $1 million dollars to support athletic programs from grassroots to elite. They were able to sell 10 new Gold Passes.
  • Fundraising included the raffle drawing for a Gold Pass by Olympic champion Mikaela Shiffrin, a paddle raise and a live auction.
  • The energy at the event was contagious. Guests were greeted by the athletes at the American Museum of Natural History and enjoyed cocktail hour amongst the dinosaur fossils in the Teddy Roosevelt Rotunda. Dinner was held in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life underneath the life-sized whale and was followed by an exciting live auction that raised over $250,000 for the team.
