Goepper Back-to-Back X Games Gold

ASPEN, CO (Jan. 26) – Olympian Nick Goepper (Lawrenceburg, IN) became the first man since 2004 to win back-to-back slopestyle skiing gold medals at X Games on Sunday, just two weeks from the sport's Olympic debut in Sochi, Russia. McRae Williams (Salt Lake City) took silver and Norway’s Andreas Håtveit bronze. Fifteen-year-old Olympian Maggie Voisin (Whitefish, MT) earned women’s silver during her first-ever X Games, while Canadians Kaya Turski and Kim Lamarre landed gold and bronze respectively. The Olympic slopestyle skiing debut is scheduled for Feb. 13 for the men and Feb. 11 for the women at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park.

• All the athletes stepped up their runs in anticipation for the showdown in Sochi, including Olympian Gus Kenworthy (Telluride, CO) landing the first-ever triple cork during a skiing competition and teammate Voisin stomping a huge switch 1080.
• In the men’s final, Geopper answered Kenworthy’s switch triple cork rodeo 1440 with his own rightside triple cork 1440 mute. Gopper’s winning run also included a rarely seen switch double cork 900 screamin’ seamen, which helped put him in the top spot.
• Kenworthy went on to finish fifth with Olympic teammate Joss Christensen (Park City, UT) sixth.
• The Olympic slopestyle skiing debut is scheduled for Feb. 13 for the men and Feb. 11 for the women at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park.
