Giaccio Wins Gold at Junior World Championships

VALMALENCO, Italy (April 5, 2017) – After winning bronze in the FIS Freestyle Junior World Championships moguls competition, Olivia Giaccio (Redding, CT) landed on top of the podium, bringing home the gold in dual moguls. Jack Kariotis (Tiburon, CA; Team Park City United), who won the men’s moguls competition, was also on the podium with bronze.

The duals win was a perfect cap to a spectacular winter for Giaccio, who ends the season with three podiums and the FIS World Cup Rookie of the Year title.

“I am super excited about this,” said Giaccio after her win. “My goal was to keep it clean and fast from dual to dual. I feel like I skied consistently all day. I am very happy to finish off my best season to date in such a fashion and more than ready to start training for next year.”

Norway’s Nora Lodoen and Russia’s Anastasia Smirnova were also on the podium with silver and bronze. Trudy Mickel (Durango,CO; Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club) and Hannah Soar (Somers, CT) rounded out the top U.S. women’s finishes in fifth and eighth respectively.

Joining Kariotis on the podium were gold medalist Riku Voutilainen of Finland and Thomas Gerken Schofeild of Great Britain. U.S. skier Abe Studler (Brant Lake, NY) was ninth.
