Flowers and Freeman Ski To Super Tour Wins

CRAFTSBURY, VT (February 7, 2016) – The USSA Super Tour races wrapped up at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center Sunday with a 10k classic individual start race for both the men and women. Erika Flowers (Stratton Mountain School) and Kris Freeman (Freebird) grabbed their first USSA Super Tour victories of the season.

In the women’s race Flowers finished first just 7.4 seconds ahead, but the fight for second ended in a tie between Elizabeth Guiney (Craftsbury Green Racing Project) and Julia Kern (Stratton Mountain School/ U.S. Ski Team). Chelsea Holmes (APU Nordic Center) finished fourth.  

In the men’s 10k, Kris Freeman stole first just 6.6 seconds ahead of Cole Morgan (University of Vermont) and Joergen Grav (University of Vermont). This was also Freeman’s first USSA Super Tour of the season

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The 10k classic races were skied on a 2.5k loop due to limited snow and warm temperatures in Vermont.
  • Erika Flowers and Kris Freeman both claimed their first victories in a USSA Super Tour race this season.
  • Caitlin Patterson (Craftsbury Green Racing Project) who has been a regular on the podium in this seasons USSA Super Tour races, has joined the U.S. Ski Team on the World Cup circuit and raced in the 30k classic at Holmenkollen in Oslo, Norway on Sunday.
  • The men’s race was supposed to be a 15k classic but due to low snow the race was shortened to a 10k.
  • The next USSA Super Tour race is the 52k American Birkebeiner in Hayward, WI February 20th.
