Fletcher 22nd in King’s Cup

OSLO, Norway (March 8) – Taylor Fletcher (Steamboat Springs, CO) earned the top spot for the U.S. Nordic Combined Ski Team Saturday when he finished 22nd at the Holmenkollen individual 10k Gundersen World Cup. He jumped into 27th but was able to climb five spots during the cross country portion, finishing 1:42 behind the King’s Cup winner Johannes Rydzek of Germany. The nordic combined athletes head to Falun, Sweden next Saturday for a final team event followed by an individual competition on Sunday.

• Taylor Fletcher (Steamboat Springs, CO) earned the top spot for the U.S. Nordic Combined Ski Team Saturday when he finished 22nd at the Holmenkollen individual 10k Gundersen World Cup.

• Billy Demong (Vermontville, NY) charged from behind to 26th after jumping 38th, while Bryan Fletcher (Steamboat Springs, CO) finished 36th.
• Magnus Moan of Norway took second with Francois Braud third.
• The warm conditions were a challenge for all of the athletes Saturday, as a deep, rutted track prevented quick moves and compact snow did not provide a lot of grip on the turns.
• The nordic combined athletes head to Falun, Sweden next Saturday for a final team event followed by an individual competition on Sunday.
• The World Cup events in Falun double as a test event for the 2015 World Ski Championships in Falun.

Today was a pretty encouraging day for me. I had the best jumping result of the season in some very harsh wind. The wind was all over the place and it was kind of a lottery on what you were going to get. I was happy with where I was at the start of the cross country. I had one the stronger cross country skiers ahead of me and I wanted to get behind him before it was too late. Unfortunately, today was not my day on the cross country side and I blew up pretty early.

After looking at the results, I can’t be too discouraged as I scored points again in what has been a very mentally and physically tough season. I am excited as we are heading to Falun, Sweden tomorrow to get some rest before the test events for next year’s World Championships. I feel that I am on a good path to finish the season off strong and get ready for next year!
