MOSCOW, Russia (March 7, 2015) - American Justin Reiter (Steamboat Springs, CO) stayed strong and steady all night long to pickup his first FIS Snowboard World Cup victory winning a parallel slalom city event in Moscow. Reiter came from behind in a close matchup with Austria’s Benjamin Carl to take a come-from-behind victory.

“It’s a pretty cool day,” said Reiter. “i have some friends who came in from the USA to watch. To be able to perform and execute today feels amazing.”

Reiter's victory was the first for an American in an alpine snowboarding World Cup since Adam Smith won in Laandgraaf, The Netherlands in October, 2003.

Reiter qualified 12th and faced Austrian Alexander Payer in the opening round, taking a narrow .14 second win to move on to quarterfinals where he took a .55 win over Austrian Johann Stefaner. In the semifinals, Reiter won by .35 over the lone remanning Russian, Andrey Sobolev.

The finals proved to be an intense matchup with Reiter facing Benjamin Karl of Austria. Karl took the lead out of the start and controlled the early pace, with Reiter struggling heading into the jump mid-course. With Karl clearly in the lead, Reiter turned up the heat in the bottom half with the Austrian riding out of the course just three gates from the finish.

“I knew I was coming into the final pitch a little bit behind, which I was used to all day.” said Reiter. “I knew my money gates were the last four so I decided to pin it a little extra close because I knew I was behind and pressured him enough to make a mistake. It was a strong run and I just had to stay focused on myself.”

The FIS Snowboard World Cup parallel tour ends in Winterberg, Germany next weekend.
