PARK CITY, UT (March 28) – Olympians Patrick Deneen (Cle Elum, WA) and Eliza Outtrim (Hamden, CT) both put down solid runs to claim the men’s and women’s U.S. titles at Friday’s moguls competition, the opening event of the USANA U.S. Freestyle Championships at Deer Valley. Fresh snow and plenty of sunshine on the 2002 Olympic venue created a spectacular round of finals that saw both veterans and rookies land on the podium. U.S. Championships continue on Saturday with men’s and women’s aerials.

  • Olympians Patrick Deneen (Cle Elum, WA) and Eliza Outtrim (Hamden, CT) reeled in the men’s and women’s U.S. titles at Friday’s moguls competition, the opening event of the USANA U.S. Freestyle Championships at Deer Valley.

  • The event was moved from its originally scheduled location at Heavenly.
  • U.S. Championships continue on Saturday with men’s and women’s aerials, where two-time Olympian Ashley Caldwell (Ashburn, VA) will lead the aerials team with Olympian Mac Bohonnon (Madison, CT). A dual moguls competition is set to wrap things up on Sunday.

Deer Valley is always an interesting animal. I can’t remember ever having a good training day here, so definitely coming into today I was a little nervous on how I was going to put my run together, but once I got here, the course was in incredible shape. I just needed to go out and do my thing, ski my run and that’s what I did two times and came out with the win.

Any time you come to Deer Valley is awesome, whether you’re skiing or competing. And to come out with a victory at Deer Valley is really exciting.

Eliza Outtrim
The course is really good. These guys at Deer Valley rebuilt it a little while ago, so I’m very grateful for that because at the end of the season it can get really rough. It’s definitely a difficult course. This is where we have the World Cup every year, so this is like the highest level course you can have. It’s hard to get down, but I think I skied well. Definitely my best run was the run I just skied, so I skied it at the right time.

Bradley Wilson
Deer Valley is so sweet. This course is incredible. To do it here at home is amazing. I competed in the Olympics, and that alone was enough, but to come out here and get on the podium with these guys is pretty cool. It’s a nice little bonus at the end of the season.

Sophia Schwartz
Today has been awesome. We came out early in the morning and it was sort of in and out of sunshine. We had a bit of fresh snow on the course, which was great. I qualified well and skied my run the way I wanted to ski. When we came back out for finals and saw the sun was shining, I was just stoked to get to ski this awesome course.
