SEISER ALM, Italy (March 29, 2016) – The American slopestyle snowboarders had an excellent showing at the 2016 FIS Junior World Championships on Tuesday. Chris Corning (Aspen, CO – Aspen Valley Snowboard Club) took the win for the men and Chandler Hunt (Park City, UT – U.S. Snowboarding Rookie Team) joined him on the podium in third. Nora Healey (Plymouth, NH – Waterville Valley BBTS) earned a podium finish for the women with a third-place performance.

Corning has had a benchmark season, combining his new Junior World Championship title with the slopestyle FIS crystal globe he won just one week before.

“It means a lot to me to be here; I’m really stoked because I wanted to come back and get revenge from last year when I got really sick,” said Corning. “It’s awesome to be able to come out here and ride with some amazing kids and be on the podium with some new people like Chandler Hunt—they all rode really well.”

Hunt added his podium finish at Junior Worlds to the win he claimed at the Revolution Tour slopestyle event in Winter Park earlier this month.

Behind Corning and Hunt, Lyon Farrell (Haiku, HI – U.S. Snowboarding Rookie Team) finished just off the podium in fourth and Sean Neary (Salisbury Mills, NY – Mammoth Mountain Ski & Snowboard Club) was 26th.

Healey, who was the Junior World Champion in 2015, has also had a stellar season. The 18-year-old who trains with Waterville Valley BBTS had two wins on the Revolution Tour—Winter Park and Seven Springs. She finished behind Chloe Sillieres of France in first and Sofya Fedorova of Russia in second.

QUOTES

Chris Corning
I fell on my first run of finals but was able to pull it all together and land my last run and I’m pretty stoked. It means a lot to me to be here; I’m really stoked because I wanted to come back and get revenge from last year when I got really sick. It’s awesome to be able to come out here and ride with some amazing kids and be on the podium with some new people like Chandler Hunt—they all rode really well. I want to thank U.S. Snowboarding for all the support.

Chandler Hunt
It’s really awesome; it’s nice getting to compete against kids from all over the world. It’s great getting to travel to these new places like Italy and overall it was a great experience.

Nora Healey
It’s been pretty cool here—the mountains are just everywhere. The people are super nice and it’s a really good atmosphere to see everyone from different countries and nations.

Lyon Farrell
The contest was super fun. I was riding really well and I felt really good. I did really well in qualifiers and I was excited to see how the judges would score me in finals. I didn’t really get the score I thought I would get but I’m so happy for everyone else that ended up making it on the podium. Everybody killed it and I’m just happy to be here. It was an awesome experience and we’re lucky to have this opportunity.
