Cook Eighth in Sochi Aerials

ROSA KHUTOR, Russia (Feb. 14) – Three-time Olympian Emily Cook (Belmont, MA) landed the top result for the USA in eighth Friday night during her final Olympic appearance at the women’s aerials event of the 2014 Sochi Games. Alla Tsuper of Belarus went on to earn the gold medal ahead of 2010 Olympic champion Mengtao Xu of China, who settled for silver. The women’s aerials event can be streamed in its entirety on NBCOlympics.com. Next, the men take to the aerials hill for qualifications and the final medal rounds Monday Feb. 17.

• Emily Cook (Belmont, MA) landed the top result for the USA in eighth Friday night during the women’s aerials event at the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games, her final Olympic appearance.
• Cook advanced to the second, eight-person final, where she notched the best Olympic result of her career after an 11th in Vancouver and 19th in Torino.
• Ashley Caldwell (Ashburn, VA) became the first U.S. woman in history to throw a full, full, full in competition during Friday’s qualification round, which put her in first place going into the final rounds. Caldwell was planning to unleash her game-changing jump in a later final, but she did not advance past the first final and finished 10th.
• Alla Tsuper of Belarus went on to earn the gold medal ahead of 2010 Olympic champion Mengtao Xu of China, who settled for silver. Lydia Lassila of Australia took home the bronze.
