Clark and Bleiler lead Dew Tour

BRECKENRIDGE, CO (Dec. 17) — With only one point separating them, U.S. Snowboarding Pro Halfpipe teammates Kelly Clark (West Dover, VT) and Gretchen Bleiler (Toledo, OH) took first and second, respectively, at the first Winter Dew Tour stop of the seaon in Breckenridge, Colorado on Saturday. The win was Clark's 12th victory in her last 14 halfpipe contests, a remarkable stretch dating back to last season. With her second place-finish, Bleiler, the 2010 Winter X Games halfpipe gold medalist, notched her first podium of the 2011-12 season. . Clark was sitting fifth before her final run on Saturday, a sequence through the pipe that had her landing her first-ever frontside inverted 7 in competition before stomping a massive frontside 9 on her second-to-last hit.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Last week’s Sprint U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix champion Kelly Clark, who won 10 out of 12 halfpipe competitions last season, won the first Winter Dew Tour stop of the season with her second run of the finals.
  • Clark was sitting in fifth before she laid down the winning run of the afternoon: a frontside inverted 7 (Clark’s competition debut for the trick), a cab 7, a frontside 5, a backside 5, a frontside 9, and a backside air.
  • Clark is the defending Dew Cup champion and the win put her in the points lead for the 2011-12 season.
  • U.S. Snowboarding Halfpipe Pro teammate Gretchen Bleiler took second on Saturday with a run that went Crippler, a back 9, a front cork 7, a cab 7, a straight air, and a back 5.
  • Halfpipe teammates Maddy Schaffrick (Rookie) and Kaitlyn Farrington (Pro) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
  • In the men’s finals, U.S. Snowobarding Pro Halfpipe teammates Matt Ladley and Scotty Lago finished sixth and tenth, respectively.
