VAL ST. COME, Quebec (Jan. 23, 2016) – The Canadian freestyle moguls team occupied five of six podium spots on Saturday’s World Cup competition in Val St. Come.
Mikael Kingsbury didn’t miss a beat as he dominated the field to take the win on the men’s side while teammate Laurent Dumais took third. After missing the top 10 at the World Cup opener in Ruka, Justine Dufour-LaPointe landed back on top of the women’s podium, leading a sweep with her sisters Chloe and Maxime.
The U.S. team qualified six athletes, including Tom Rowley (Long Beach, NY), Dylan Walczyk (Rochester, NY), Jeremy Cota (Carrabassett Valley, ME), Nessa Dziemian (East Hampstead, NH), Jaelin Kauf (Steamboat Springs, CO) and Keaton McCargo (Telluride, CO), through to the final rounds. Dziemian put down a strong run in final one but suffered a crash in the middle section of the course on final two. She still posted her best World Cup result with a sixth place finish.
“I was really excited going in to my last run,” said Dziemian. “I wanted to go fast and I realized I wasn’t turning like I normally do. I was going more direct and I felt a bit out of control. When I tried to blow out, that’s when I crashed. My goal today was to ski in super finals, so I’m happy I was able to do that.”
With a stacked field, there was little room for error in the men’s competition. Rowley, Walczyk and Cota all had strong runs leading in to finals, but were unable to advance through to the second final. Australia’s Matt Graham interrupted a potential Canadian sweep on the men’s side as well, finished second ahead of Dumais.
The FIS Freestyle moguls World Cup continues on January 30th in Calgary, Alberta.

- Jeremy Cota finished 13th, Tom Rowley 16th, Bruce Perry 25th, Bryon Wilson 30th and Troy Murphy 36th.
