Baumgartner 7th in SBX Finals

SIERRA NEVADA, Spain (March 21) – In the final World Cup snowboardcross race of the season, veteran Nick Baumgartner (Iron River, MI) finished seventh, winning the small final with teammate, rookie Hagan Kearney (Telluride, CO), right on his tail in eighth. France’s Pierre Vaultier won the men’s race. Faye Gulini (Salt Lake City) took the top spot for U.S. women in eighth place while Canadian Dominique Maltais won the women’s race. Thursday’s race wraps up a solid season with Baumgartner finishing fifth in the World Cup snowboardcross standings, the top spot for U.S. Snowboarding.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Veteran Nick Baumgartner (Iron River, MI) finished seventh in the final World Cup snowboardcross race of the season on Thursday, winning the small final.
• His teammate, rookie Hagen Kearney (Telluride, CO), was right on his tail and finished in the eighth spot.
• France’s Pierre Vaultier won the men’s race.
• Pat Holland (Squaw Valley, CA) went out in the semifinal. He placed 13th while Alex Tuttle (Stratton, ME) placed 15th, Jarod Minghini (Snowshoe, WV) 18th and Jonathan Cheever (Saugus, MA) 26th.  
• Seth Wescott (Sugarloaf, ME) and Nate Holland (Squaw Valley, CA) did not compete in the final race.
• Faye Gulini (Salt Lake City) took the top spot for U.S. women in eighth place.
• Callan Chythlook-Sifsof (Girdwood, AK) also went out in the semifinal. She finished 17th.
• Canadian Dominique Maltais won the women's race.
• Thursday’s race wraps up a solid snowboardcross season with Baumgartner finishing fifth in the World Cup standings, the highest ranked U.S. snowboarder.
• It was also a great season for U.S. Snowboarding’s rookie, Hagen Kearney, taking seventh in his first World Cup in Montafon, Austria and eighth at Sierra Nevada. He finished 25th in the standings.
• Veteran Nate Holland ranked seventh on the season, while Wescott and Alex Deibold (Manchester Center, VT) just missed the top ten at 11th and 12th.
• Gulini was the highest ranked U.S. woman at 11th.
