2017 U.S. Ski & Snowboard MEMBERSHIP FAQs

What’s new?
Prices have been reduced. In addition to the price reductions, all competitors competing in USSA Sanctioned events will be required to have a membership.

What do I get with a general memberships?
The new general membership category of $15 is the minimum membership needed to participate in a USSA sanctioned race. Members with general memberships are NOT scored to the USSA National Ranking List (NRL).

Can I get a short-term same day membership?
Short-term memberships will also be offered at a cost of $15 per day.

Short-term memberships may be purchased online. However, these memberships are NOT scored to the USSA National Ranking List (NRL). If a competitor arrives race day, the competitor may choose this method or choose any of the other categories. The Oganizing Committee will steer this person to an online registration onsite with USSA, on which the member becomes a member instantly. In the rare occasion where an OC does not have internet, a backup only paper registration form will be provided to the OC to enroll the member in the short-term USSA membership. Short-term membership applications must be returned to USSA Member Services within one week of the event.

Should I get a competitor membership? How does that work with the National Ranking List scoring?
Athletes wishing to be scored to the National Ranking List (NRL) will need a competitor membership. Athletes needing a FIS license will also need a competitor membership. All competitors with a competitor membership will be scored.

U16 and older                         $95 (need for FIS)

FIS                                          $65

U12-U14                                 $25

U10                                         $15

Masters (age 40 and over)     $25 non FIS

Do athletes U14 and younger need a competitor’s membership?
U14 and under athletes do not need a competitor's membership. They need only the $15 general membership to compete.  However, in order to be scored, they will need the competitor's membership. Scored U14 and younger athletes who purchase competitors memberships will be scored to the NRL along with the U16 and older age groups.

How can I upgrade from a general membership?
The general membership is available for athletes just starting to get into racing. Athletes who upgrade their membership from general to competitor will receive NRL points and will show up on the next NRL points list following their upgrade.

Can I get a membership for multiple sports for the same price?
USSA now offers the option for members to add additional USSA memberships (such as alpine, freeskiing, freestyle or snowboarding) at no charge. The participant will only need to pay the highest single USSA membership cost for the sports in which they want to compete in. Additional division dues may apply according to divisional rules.

What are the head tax and race sanctioning fees?
Race calendaring fees for a USSA event are:

USSA only race:                $50.00 per day.
The fee is regardless of race codes needed. Please specify how many race codes you will need. The organizer will pay this fee at the time of race calendaring, regardless of whether the race is scored or non-scored.

FIS Series:                         $500.00 per series (days must be sequential to constitute a series)

Head tax is paid for both USSA and USSA/FIS events. The cost is $3.00 per competitor with a $300.00 per day per gender cap. Note: Partners hosting USSA events with championships and or prize money do not pay head tax, such as SuperTours, U.S. Championships and Junior Nationals.

How many race codes should an OC request?
An OC must request a separate race code for each race they want scored. Examples of separate race codes request are: women, men, distance changes. If the field is going all the same distance for any age with a consecutive start time, only one race code and scoring opportunity is needed. If the race is run separately with start times and different distances, a separate race code is required. Gender must always be separate.

What are the benefits to being a USSA member?
Requiring membership for all those participating in USSA events will simplify liability coverage for the OC, TD and USSA. In addition, the process will streamline results processing and race management. When results are submitted to USSA, no modifications will be needed. These new measures will also provide all athletes access to USSA benefits, while allowing the OCs to use systems in place at USSA such as registration and race data entry systems, currently only available for events that have USSA only members in them.
