The Upper Peninsula has good reason to be proud of its own Nick Baumgartner. The All-American wrestler, 2000 Wrestling State Champ (189 pounds), State Champion hurdler and All-State football player added snowboard Olympian to his resume in 2010. In 2011 he scored a World Cup victory in addition to an X Games gold medal, and he scored his second Olympic appearance for the U.S. in 2014.

Baumgartner also earned an X Games silver medal in snowboardcross at Aspen in 2012. He was then invited to compete at the summer X Games in Austin in 2014 in his "other" sport, Stadium Super Truck racing; Baum made the Final, finishing 8th against a stacked field.

Father to 12-year old Landon, in his own words Baumgartner strives to be, "the first one down the hill, the first one around the track and the coolest dad on the planet."

      FIRST TRACKS
Like most people who grew up in the frozen tundra of Northern Michigan, snow found Baumgartner, and he's done pretty much everything there is to do with the fluffy stuff. Snowboarding was just a natural response to his environment.

      OFF THE SNOW
In the off-season Baumgartner likes to explore with his son Landon and attend the torque series off-road races. It is his prerogative to, “tell kids to follow their dreams; they can make their own opportunities in life—play hard, dream big, become!”
