As athletes go, Kikkan Randall is rare and special. A four-time Olympian, three-time overall World Cup Sprint Champion and 26-time World Cup podium finisher, the Anchorage, AK native has single-handedly brought cross country ski racing into the modern era by ever pushing past conventional expectation into results and leadership.

In addition to racing nine-world champions, Randall has carved out a space for America at the sharpest ends of a race. When her teammates Jessie Diggins and Liz Stephen took historic finishes in the 2015 World Championships and the Tour de Ski, respectively, they walked in a path blazed by Randall over the course of the last decade. The 2014-15 season was a tougher year for Randall, salvaged, in part, by a late podium finish at the Lahti sprint.

Randall is also the founder of Fast and Female, a nonprofit focused on getting girls on skis. After skipping the 2015-16 season due to the pregnancy of her first child—a little boy named Breck Stuart Randall Ellis, born in April of 2016—Randall, who has been a key leader on the U.S. Cross Country Ski Team for many years, plans to come back strong for the World Cup year in 2016-17 and keeps her eyes focused on the 2018 Olympics in PyeongChang.

FIRST TRACKS
Randall’s family lived in Salt Lake City, UT while her mother attended law school at the University of Utah, but returned to Alaska after her birth. The niece of two Olympians (Uncle Chris Haines was a 1976 cross country skier and Aunt Betsy Haines was the first racer on course in the 1980 5k), she was a first-rate high school runner and turned to skiing as a way to continue training in winter. She quickly became one of the top U.S. junior racers. She blends classes at Alaska Pacific University with her cross country training and serves as a key liaison between the U.S. Ski Team and one of the nation's premier club programs, the Alaska Pacific University Nordic Ski Center.
