Jamie Anderson has been collecting snowboard accolades since she first made turns at Sierra-at-Tahoe at the age of nine. She started on the USASA circuit and was picking up endorsements by the age of 10. She is now the most decorated slopestyle snowboarder in X Games history and an Olympic champion with her eyes set on a repeat at the Pyeongchang Games in 2018. Jamie is one of eight children in her family, and she's not the only one to find success in snowboarding (she and sister, Joanie, both won gold medals at the 2007 X Games Aspen), but her passion has taken her to lofty places, including the top of the Olympic slopestyle podium at the Sochi Olympics in 2014. In the Olympic aftermath Jamie picked up two ESPYs--the award for Best Female Action Sports Athlete and Best Female U.S. Olympian. The first woman to land a 1080 off a jump (Nine Queens, 2015), Jamie is know for her flawless style, grabs held all the way through her spins and stomped landings. We saw a lot of technical progression from her in 2016, despite starting the season with a broken collarbone. She says that she's ready to take women's snowboarding to the next level--to reach her full potential as an athlete. When someone as talented as Jamie Anderson decides to step up, best pay attention--it's going to be fun to watch. FIRST TRACKS A South Lake Tahoe native, Jamie first made turns on a snowboard at Sierra-at-Tahoe at the age of nine. She began competing on the USASA circuit and collecting sponsors by the age of 10. The fifth of eight children, Jamie and her sisters were homeschooled, which gave her the opportunity to be on the mountain most days. She was invited to her first X Games at the age of 13 and won her first pro contest at 15. OFF THE SNOW Jamie is a student of Ayervedic medicine, an ancient wholistic practice. She's also a dedicated yogi--which she credits with keeping her grounded and helping her survive and recover from the crashes she takes as a professional snowboarder. |
