Awards and Recognition

The USSA has the same challenge as our clubs: taking the time and making the effort to do a good job in selecting appropriate award recipients, then recognizing them properly.

Most clubs host an awards banquet in the springtime when the entire organization can come together to celebrate the achievements of the athletes, but also recognize the contributions of the leadership and volunteers who have been responsible for successful events and programming. Depending on the size and nature of the club, awards will vary. Club leaders, staff and coaches should select awards recipients.

What you Value!

Your Desired Culture!

As is emphasized above, return to your mission, vision and values statement as a good way to identify what should be awarded and recognized in your club. Or, a simple review of the key stakeholders will help to identify the critical categories of the awards plan.

While athletic awards are typically performance driven with objective selection, what other performance is important to the club? Are there athletes or individuals who best represent the overall mission of the organization? Are there board members or other volunteers who are most influential in establishing the vision? Are there student athletes who best represent the balance of taking care of athletic, academic and personal responsibilities?

Awarding and recognizing these different aspects of performance can go a long way toward establishing the appropriate culture and environment for your club.

Clubs can review the USSA awards manual on the USSA website. This information may assist club leaders in further developing their own awards and procedures. See below:
